Work Program

The Transitional Employment Program gives Crocus members the opportunity to develop valuable work skills, slowly get back into the workforce, and earn an income that contributes to poverty alleviation. Those working with us can gradually re-enter the workforce in a manner that suits their individual needs.

This program teaches members basic skills such as teamwork and time management while giving them a sense of accomplishment. We offer the opportunity for our membership to have the dignity of doing real work that puts real dollars in their pockets, thus helping to improve their quality of life.

Each day, our Program Director coordinates various jobs for our members and creates work crews who go out and complete these jobs. Members of all abilities are given the opportunity to work based on jobs available on a daily basis. Crocus aims to reduce barriers to employment by providing our members with necessities such as winter clothing, work gloves, steel toed boots, and necessary safety gear.

Hire Us

Our Program Director contacts various individuals and businesses and arranges the details of the job, such as location, time, type of work, and what equipment is required. Work crews are then formed based on the needs of the job and sent to the location with the guidance of the Program Director. Crocus provides transportation and all necessary equipment. When the job is completed, an invoice is sent by mail directly to each client and can be paid by cash, cheque, credit card or E-Transfer. EFT payments can be sent to admin@crocuscooperative.org.

Clients benefit from a quick, efficient job done, as well as the satisfaction of hiring an inclusive work crew. Members benefit from gaining work experience, building self-esteem, and a hard earned pay cheque at the end of each week. Any surplus in income contributes to the self-sufficiency of the organization.

  • About Us

Crocus provides safe and accepting drop-in centre for adults who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Anyone accessing Crocus must first become a member of Crocus. Members are able to participate in various programs throughout the day, purchase a healthy meal or snacks from our canteen, and find casual work through our Transitional Employment program.

  • History

In 1982, community members had a growing concern about the lack of transitional care for psychiatric patients. With better medication and treatments, psychiatric patients were often being discharged with little or no long-term support. The idea came from the hope of creating a safe, accepting place where people living with a mental illness could gather and share struggles and triumphs.

  • Staff + Board

Crocus Co-op staff works tirelessly to provide social events, work, and meals for our members. Everyone involved with Crocus, whether on staff or as a board member believes wholeheartedly in the co-op's mission and truly feels as though they are part of the Crocus family.
